With a new season, families can look forward to a whole new variety of activities. During the fall season, you can count on events for the entire family centered around fall holidays and seasonal events that all family members will enjoy.

Camping

This may seem like something to do ideally in the heat of the summer, but fall can also be the best time to camp with the family. Not only are there Halloween-themed camping events, but it seems even more appropriate to tell ghost stories around the campfire this time of year and enjoy the cool, crisp weather.

Visiting a cider mill

Experiencing this type of family outing isn’t just about eating cider and doughnuts. There are a multitude of things that any family can enjoy together at most cider mills including petting zoos, corn mazes, apple-picking, and hay rides to fully embrace the fall season.

Fall foliage scenic drive

One of the best parts about fall is the changing colors, so a scenic drive down a long stretch of road known for its beautifully changing fall colors could be enjoyed by everyone. Kids can stop along the way and collect fall foliage to take home and create beautiful scrapbooks with.

Graveyard Tour

Depending on family members’ tastes for the supernatural, reserving a family tour of some of the most famous cemeteries in the country seems right in line with the aura of Halloween during this season. Many cemeteries have fun-filled, family-oriented graveyard tours during the fall that highlight stories central to this holiday, such as The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, among many others.

Oktoberfest Events

These annual fall events, which trace their origins back to Bavaria, are a celebration of the onset of fall as well as the fall harvest. Families can enjoy unique food such as wiener schnitzel and baked pretzels, as well as all dress up in lederhosen, the traditional Bavarian costume. There are demonstrations of Bavarian dancing that festival-goers can also participate in and a variety of rides and parades for children.

Attend a football game

Nearly every family has their favorite high school, college, or professional sports team, and come fall, that means football is in season as well. The entire family can get their school colors on and pack the car with munchies and hot chocolate for the pre-game tailgating festivities, and enjoy the camaraderie of sports fans and family members alike.
